Yes, it works surprisingly well.

At first glance, it dares you to not just the built-in camera. The iPhone 4 still comes with a fixed focal length and with approx. 5 megapixels. Any zoom is calculated only … There are, of course gadgets to apply to the lens, think of an telescope or an fish eye. But that’s actually not even necessary if I do a long exposure,  light painting or perform on my own in front of the fixed lense of my iPhone.

Tools of the trade:

  1. iPhone 4
  2. iFrogz case (for stability) or a tripod with clamp
  3. The SNAPSEED App by Nik Software gives here a crop filter, grunge and frame’s finish to polish.
  4. However, Anistar’s App Magic Shutter is the absolute enabler for the long and multiple exposures here. Magic Shutter is simply a creative genius for the iPhone camera. For a long time exposure or  even Bulb mode no problem. Not enough? Just watch the Light Paintings live as they arise. Upload and share  immediately after capture or refine the creations with Snapseed and share afterwards.
    Each light along the way may now mutate into a paintbrush in Magic shutter which is an excellent tool for exuberant creativity.

1. Long time / double exposure on the main station at night;

2. Longtime exposure following the Lomo principle / pressing the iPhone on to a wall, 5-6 sec.20110923-102822.jpg

3. Place the iPhone on a table top and let it capture the darkness with lights.
